Men's Soccer Settles For Second Straight Draw

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Junior Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) scored in the 10th minute, but the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team tied Edgewood 1-1 in double overtime on Sunday night. The Eagles scored in the second half to tie the game at one apiece and the score stood for the Warriors' second straight draw.

  • Junior Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) got the Warriors on the board in the 10th minute with his third goal of the season. Cano received a pass from freshman Ben Meaux (Franklin, Wis.) and dribbled past the keeper for a shot with his left foot from five yards out.
  • WLC's defense held strong in the first half, with freshman goalkeeper Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) recording three saves to keep the Eagles scoreless.
  • Edgewood evened the score in the 64th minute as Tyler Nelson gathered a deflected ball and fired a shot that beat Galvan to the left side.
  • In the 68th minute, junior Justin Kuffler (Moline, Ill.) had an opportunity to give the Warriors the lead back, but his header bounced off the top woodwork. Neither team was able to score in the closing minutes of regulation, and the score remained even at one heading into overtime.
  • In the first overtime, junior Aedon Meurer (Waukesha, Wis.) produced the lone shot on goal but his shot to the right corner was stopped. In the second overtime, Galvan gathered a pair of saves and Kuffler had a shot on target for Wisconsin Lutheran, but the score remained locked at one as the final horn sounded.

  • Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 17 shots and six shots on goal. Meurer paced the team with five shots and two on frame. Cano, Kuffler, sophomore Joseph Raasch (Germantown, Wis.), and freshman Ryan Mazza (Elm Grove, Wis.) tallied the other four shots on goal.
  • Galvan recorded six saves on seven shots faced across 110 minutes in net.
  • This is the first draw between the two teams since the 1991 season.

  • The Eagles posted 10 total shots with seven shots landing on frame. Evan Oppermann and Tyler Nelson each finished with two shots on target for Edgewood.
  • Brendon Martin stopped five of the six shots he faced in goal to earn the draw.
