WLC Drops First NACC Match To CUW

MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team returned to Mequon on Monday to continue its suspended NACC match from last Wednesday against Concordia Wisconsin. The Falcons defeated the Warriors 8-1 for their first conference loss of the season.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (4-8, 1-1 NACC), Concordia Wisconsin (6-4, 3-0 NACC)
• Location: CUW Tennis Courts, Mequon, Wis.

• The Falcons picked up a pair of wins to open doubles competition with the Warriors. After falling 8-2 at No. 1 singles, WLC's No. 2 team of freshmen Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) collected an 8-2 victory for their sixth win of the season. The win also gave Wisconsin Lutheran its first flight win over Concordia Wisconsin since 2014.
• Freshmen Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) and Alex Sturm (Hartland, Wis.) suffered an 8-7 setback at the No. 3 doubles slot.
• CUW claimed five singles victories in straight sets and another via three sets. Freshman Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) dropped a tough match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 0-6, 7-6.

• The Falcons' Ricki Budewitz won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and partnered with Ashley Samuta for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

• The Warriors host Edgewood (3-0, 2-0 NACC) in a NACC dual match on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Hart Park in Wauwatosa.
