Women's Tennis Topped By Eagles, 6-3

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 NACC dual to the Edgewood Eagles on a chilly Wednesday afternoon at Hart Park. Despite the loss, the Warriors won three games from the Eagles for the first time since the 2012 season.

  • The Eagles opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches from the Warriors at No. 1 and No. 2. WLC's No. 3 team of freshmen Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) and Alex Sturm (Hartland, Wis.) picked up an 8-4 victory to improve to 6-1 on the year.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran dropped the first two singles matches before freshman Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) earned a three-set win at No. 3, 6-3, 0-6, 7-5. 
  • Freshman Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) followed at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win to tie for the team lead with her seventh singles victory on the season.
  • EC claimed the final two flights in straight sets for the 6-3 win over WLC.

  • The Eagles' Cecile Fuchs won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Ally Verbauwhede for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

  • The Warriors host another NACC dual match on Saturday against Illinois Tech (3-1, 3-1 NACC). Opening serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Princeton Club in New Berlin.
