Warriors Roll Past North Park, 8-1

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team won for the second time in its last three matches on Thursday, rolling past North Park 8-1 in a non-conference match at McKinley Park Tennis Courts.

• The Warriors earned three wins to take an early lead over the Vikings in doubles play. Freshmen Kaytlyn Hartfield (New Holstein, Wis.) and Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) were 8-2 winners at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) and Alex Sturm (Hartland, Wis.) improved their overall record to 9-1 with an 8-0 shutout win. WLC's No. 3 doubles team won by default.
• Wisconsin Lutheran added a trio of convincing straight set wins in singles play. Medema and Haskell both won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 3, while freshman Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) collected a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4. The Green and White won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default. The victories marked a team-leading ninth for Medema and Smith, while Haskell picked up her seventh.
• The win was the first for the Warriors over North Park in their brief four-match history.

• Lisa Viuhkonen picked up North Park's lone win of the day at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win. NPU defaulted at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

• The Warriors return to conference competition on Saturday with their third match of the week. WLC travels to face Alverno (0-5, 0-5 NACC) for a 10 a.m. first serve at McKinley Park Tennis Courts in Milwaukee.
