Women's Tennis Clips Sabres For Third Straight Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team battled back from a doubles deficit with four singles wins en route to edging Marian 5-4 on Sunday afternoon in a NACC dual at Fond du Lac High School. It was the Warriors' third straight win and their first over the Sabres in four years.

• The Sabres picked up a pair of two close wins in doubles play over the Warriors, winning 9-8 at No. 1 and 8-6 at No. 3. WLC's No. 2 team of freshmen Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) won 8-4 for their ninth win of the season.
• Wisconsin Lutheran battled back in singles play, winning four of six flights, including a three-setter at No. 3. Freshman Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2, freshman Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) earned a three-set (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) win at No. 3, Smith secured a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4, and freshman Christina Choi (Milton, Wis.) picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6. 
• The singles victories for Medema and Smith were their team-leading 11th of the season.

• Emma Lewandowski earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles for the Sabres. She and her teammate Carly Paulson also won 9-8 at No. 1 doubles.

• The Warriors play their final NACC regular season dual next Saturday when they host Dominican (1-5, 1-5 NACC). First serve is set for 10 a.m. at the Princeton Club in New Berlin.
