WLC Falls Short In Upset Bid Of Stars

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team battled 12-time NACC champion Dominican to the wire on Saturday afternoon, but fell 2-1 in a NACC match at Warriors Soccer Field.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (4-5-0, 2-2-0 NACC), Dominican (7-1-0, 4-0-0 NACC)
• Location: Warriors Soccer Field, Wauwatosa, Wis.

• Warriors freshman goalkeeper Bryce Beckley (Waterford, Wis.) made four saves in the first half before the Stars were able to crack the scoring column with a 27th-minute goal.
• Beckley and WLC's backline kept the home team within striking distance as he stopped three more shots through the 72nd minute of the match.
• Wisconsin Lutheran made the most of its few scoring chances. In the 74th minute, senior Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) beat the Dominican defense and weaved his way around the keeper for the equalizer and his seventh goal of the season. The goal was assisted by freshman Jesus Altamirano (Milwaukee, Wis.).
• The Stars kept applying pressure and took a 2-1 lead four minutes later when Vicente Casto's endline shot deflected off a WLC defender into the net. It was Castro's second goal in the contest.
• The 2-1 score stood the rest of the way as DU held on for the win.
• Beckley made seven saves in the match for the Warriors, who had one shot each from four different players.
