Leisemann's Double-Double Lifts Wisconsin Lutheran Over Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) recorded her fifth career double-double and sophomore Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) netted a career-high in her first collegiate start, as the 23rd-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team pulled away late from Dominican for a 59-40 win on Saturday afternoon inside the Igini Sports Forum. The win was the Warriors' seventh straight conference road victory.

  • The Warriors held an 8-5 lead over the Stars three-and-a-half minutes into the game after a jumper from senior Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.).
  • WLC was held scoreless for the remainder of the first quarter, shooting just 23.5 percent and committing eight turnovers, as DU went ahead 9-8 after the opening 10 minutes.
  • Trailing 11-8 within the first minute of the second quarter, Wisconsin Lutheran used a 9-1 scoring run, capped by a three from Scott to grab a five-point advantage.
  • The Green and White had another five-point lead at 19-14 before they hung on for a 24-22 halftime lead. Leisemann and Scott scored eight first-half points for the Warriors, who shot 32.4 percent. 
  • WLC never relinquished its lead in the third quarter, using a 6-0 run to build a 31-24 lead with 4:13 remaining in the period. Dominican came within three points with under three minutes to play, but Wisconsin Lutheran ended the quarter strong by matching its lead of seven points at 41-34.
  • The Green and White played a much-improved fourth quarter, shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and allowing just six Stars' points. The Warriors built their first double-digit lead nearly a minute-and-a-half into the final frame and held DU scoreless for the last five-and-a-half minutes. WLC's 19-point margin of victory was its largest lead of the game. 
  • Leisemann led Wisconsin Lutheran with 18 points and a season-high 15 rebounds for her fifth career double-double.
  • Scott finished with 12 points in her first collegiate start.
  • The Green and White dominated the glass 48-31 and outscored the Stars 14-1 in second chance points and 24-12 in the paint. 
  • The Warriors have allowed 40 or fewer points to an opponent four times this season.
