Fast Start Fuels Warriors To Convincing Win Over Cougars

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Kaitlyn Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) scored a season-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures, as the 21st-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team cruised to a wire-to-wire 77-49 win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday afternoon inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors made a season-high 11 three-pointers in the win.

  • The Warriors jumped out to an 11-2 lead over the Cougars nearly halfway through the first quarter after a three from senior Kalies Birkholz (Watertown, Wis.). An 11-0 scoring run followed that gave WLC a 22-5 advantage with 1:35 left in the opening quarter. The hosts carried a 28-7 lead into the second thanks to a 61.1 percent shooting performance and nine points from Shadoski. 
  • Wisconsin Lutheran scored the first two points of the second quarter, building its lead to 24 points. An 8-2 run from CUC widdled its deficit down to 18 points with just over six-and-a-half minutes left. The Green and White went into halftime ahead 44-25 as Shadoski added another seven points in the second period.
  • A 9-0 third-quarter run by the Warriors increased their lead to 27 points with under five minutes to play. WLC went into the fourth quarter in front 59-33 as it held Concordia Chicago to just one made field goal in the quarter. 
  • Wisconsin Lutheran led by 31 points two-and-a-half minutes into the fourth quarter after a three from senior Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.). Birkholz extended the margin to a game-high 33 points shortly after with her fifth triple of the game. The Green and White secured their second-largest victory of the season with the 28-point victory.
  • Shadoski scored a season-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds to lead three players in double figures for the Warriors. Birkholz returned to the court and scored 18 points off the bench, while Mace finished with 13 points.
  • Sophomore Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) led all players with 11 rebounds, as WLC dominated the glass 52-36. She also added six points, four assists, three blocks, and two steals
  • Wisconsin Lutheran outscored the Cougars 18-6 in points off turnovers and 16-6 in second chance points.
