Huge Scoring Run Sends Women's Basketball To 14-0

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – A 26-0 scoring run that spanned between the second and third quarter sent the 17th-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to a 74-30 win over Alverno on Tuesday night inside Reiman Gymnasium. The 30 points allowed by the Warriors was their fewest of the season.

  • The Warriors broke an early 2-2 tie by ripping off a 9-0 scoring run to take an 11-2 lead at the 5:43 mark of the first quarter. WLC's lead reached 10 points after freshman Mack Hogenson (Neenah, Wis.) buried a three from the right wing to make it 16-6. The Inferno held Wisconsin Lutheran to just two points over the final three minutes of the opening period as the score read 18-11 after one quarter. 
  • Senior Ally Gough (Horicon, Wis.) opened the second quarter with a three, her first of two in the quarter, to bump the lead back up to 10 for the Green and White. The three points started a 19-0 scoring run over the entire quarter, as the Warriors held Alverno without a point for the period. WLC went into halftime ahead 37-11 as five different players scored in the quarter.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran netted the first seven points of the third period before the Inferno snapped their scoreless streak. The Green and White, which scored 24 points in the period, scored the final 10 points of the third quarter to carry a 61-18 lead into the fourth quarter. Six different players found the scoring column, led by freshman Ainsley Howard's (Jefferson, Wis.) six points.
  • The Warriors' lead reached a game-high 48 points within the first two minutes of the fourth quarter following a three from freshman Lexy Smit (Brandon, Wis.). Alverno scored the next six points, its largest run of the game, but WLC coasted to the 44-point win.
  • Sophomore Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) led Wisconsin Lutheran with 10 points and nine rebounds in just 14 minutes on the floor. Howard and senior Maria Murray (Middleton, Wis.) added eight points each.
  • Freshman Kara Troxel (Bonduel, Wis.) scored seven points and sophomore Nicole Jongebloed (Horicon, Wis.) added six rebounds.
  • The Green and White outscored Inferno 26-4 in points off turnovers, 26-4 in second chance points, and 38-8 on points in the paint.
