Wisconsin Lutheran Coasts Past Carthage, 71-51

Ten Pas posts double-double for WLC

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Sophomore Ella Ten Pas (Oostburg, Wis.) posted a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 71-51 non-conference win over Carthage on Wednesday at the Time of Grace Center.

The first quarter featured four ties as neither team held more than a three-point advantage in a tightly-contested opening 10 minutes. The Firebirds (0-3) scored five of the final seven points of the quarter to take a three-point lead at 15-12 into the second period.

The Warriors (2-1) started the second quarter with an 11-2 scoring run, capped by a three from sophomore Mack Hogenson (Neenah, Wis.), for a 23-17 lead with 5:34 on the clock. WLC used another 10-2 run to close out the quarter and carry a 33-21 lead into halftime.

CC cut its deficit down to 11 points with 5:24 left in the third quarter, but Wisconsin Lutheran responded with a 12-2 run to take a commanding 51-30 lead. Senior Ally Gough (Horicon, Wis.) concluded the third-quarter scoring with a three-pointer for a 54-32 Warriors lead heading to the fourth.

WLC extended its lead to a game-high 23 points at 60-37 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. Wisconsin Lutheran's lead never dipped below 16 points the rest of the period as it won its second straight game over Carthage.

Hogenson paced three Warriors in double figures with a career-high 15 points. Ten Pas posted a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman Paige Werner (Neenah, Wis.) added 10 points off the bench. Junior Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) dished out seven assists while chipping in seven points. WLC shot a season-high 45.3 percent from the floor and sunk a season-best nine three-pointers.

Marianna Morrissey scored 13 points for the Firebirds, who shot 28.1 percent from the floor and out-scored Wisconsin Lutheran 12-2 in fastbreak points.
