HOLLAND, Mich. (WLCSports.com) – Top-ranked Hope used an 18-0 scoring run that spanned across two quarters to quickly erase a three-point deficit, as the Flying Dutch defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College 84-52 on Tuesday at the DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Warriors (2-2) took their first lead of the game at 10-9 when sophomore
Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) knocked down a three at the 5:44 mark of the first quarter. WLC followed with a pair of three-point leads, the later being 14-11 after a layup from freshman Paige Werner (Neenah, Wis.) with 4:25 remaining in the opening period.
The Flying Dutch (5-0) closed the first quarter on a 15-0 scoring run to take a 26-14 lead behind 61.1 percent shooting. HC concluded its scoring run with a three for the first points of the second quarter. A five-point swing, capped by a three-point play from junior
Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) brought the deficit down to 10 points less than two minutes into the second quarter. Hope responded with a 14-0 scoring run to take a 45-21 lead into halftime.
Wisconsin Lutheran went toe-to-toe with Hope in the third quarter, out-scoring the hosts 22-21. A 7-0 scoring run brought the deficit down to 18 points after a layup from sophomore Ella Ten Pas (Oostburg, Wis.) at the 7:17 mark. The Flying Dutch lead reached 27 points with 2:18 remaining as they carried a 66-43 advantage into the fourth quarter.
The Warriors whittled their deficit down to 23 points with four minutes to play following a three-point play from freshman Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.). HC finished the game on an 11-2 scoring run over the final 2:58 for the final margin of 84-52.
Leisemann, Hill, and senior
Ally Gough (Horicon, Wis.) led WLC with seven points apiece. Ten Pas totaled a team-high nine rebounds. Wisconsin Lutheran finished the game shooting 32.3 percent from the floor.
Savannah Feenstra posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds for Hope, which shot 54 percent from the floor for the contest.
