WLC shoots a season-high 55 percent in defeat

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - UW-Stevens Point closed out the game on a 13-0 scoring run, including a three in the final second, to hand Wisconsin Lutheran College a heartbreaking 60-59 loss on Tuesday at Quandt Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (2-3) and Pointers (4-1) traded leads nine times throughout the first half and saw the score deadlocked on five occasions. WLC led by as many as five points at 20-15 in the opening half after freshman Austin Wagner's (Jackson, Wis.) layup at the 9:22 mark. UWSP pulled in front by four points in the final 0:30 seconds of the first half, before holding onto a 33-31 halftime lead.

Wisconsin Lutheran shot a blistering 57.1 percent in the opening half, compared to Stevens Point's 44.4 percent.

The Warriors came out of halftime on fire, opening up a game-high 12-point lead with 12:59 remaining thanks to a 16-2 scoring run. Four different players scored during the stretch. The Pointers made a run of their own and trimmed their deficit down to four points at 49-45 at the 10:08 mark.

Another 10-2 run from WLC matched its largest lead of the game with 3:43 left following a layup from Wagner for a 59-47 advantage.

UWSP had the last answer, however, capitalizing off three turnovers and a pair of missed field goals to score the final 13 points of the contest, including the go-ahead three-pointer with less than a second left.

Junior Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) led three players in double figures for Wisconsin Lutheran with 13 points to go along with nine rebounds. Junior Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) added 12 points and four assists, while Wagner tallied a season-high 11 points off the bench. The Warriors shot a season-high 55.0 percent from the floor.

Jake Buchanon scored 15 points, including the game-winning three, to lead Stevens Point. The Pointers shot 41.8 percent from the floor and out-scored the Warriors 15-7 in points off turnovers.
