WLC's Balanced Attack No Match For Aurora

Saturday marks fifth straight win in series

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Junior Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) led four players in double figures with a game-high 18 points to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to an 81-63 win over Aurora on Saturday at the Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (5-5, 3-2 NACC), who extended their winning streak over the Spartans (7-4, 3-2 NACC) to five games, never trailed in their first home game in two weeks.

WLC jumped out to an early 10-5 lead after consecutive three-pointers from junior Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.). AU tied the contest for the second time at 14-14, but a 14-3 run by Wisconsin Lutheran gave them their largest lead of the first half following a Stoltz layup at the 10:05 mark.

Aurora trimmed its deficit down to just three points at 32-29 after a three-pointer with 3:34 remaining in the first half. Five straight from the Warriors sent their lead back to eight, and a pair of free throws from senior Simeon Strauss (Chicago, Ill.) gave WLC a 41-32 advantage at the halftime break.

A 7-1 spurt early in the second half pushed Wisconsin Lutheran's lead to 15 points, forcing a Spartans timeout following a Broeckel triple. The Warriors' advantage reached 20 points for the first time when junior Jacob Hefle (Germantown, Wis.) knocked down a three with 15:15 left.

WLC then went on a 16-3 scoring run to push its lead to a game-high 31 points at 74-43 after a three-point play from junior AJ Vos (Lombard, Ill.). The lead stood at 30 points with 5:40 remaining before AU chipped away in the closing minutes.

Broeckel paced four players in double figures with game-high 18 points. Stoltz finished with 17 points, Hefle added 14, and senior Trevor Stiede (Pulaski, Wis.) chipped in 12 off the bench. Voss tacked on seven rebounds, six points, and three steals.

Wisconsin Lutheran shot an even 50 percent (28-for-56) from the floor, marking the third time this season finishing at least a 50 percent clip.

Nolan Boffman scored a team-high 14 points for Aurora, which shot 34.5 percent (20-for-58) from the floor.

The Warriors travel to Madison on Tuesday for their final conference game of the calendar year against Edgewood (1-8, 1-3 NACC) at 7 p.m. Live coverage links will be available for the contest at WLCSports.com.
