Bernhagen Sparks Wisconsin Lutheran To Comeback Win Over Sabres

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Senior Drew Bernhagen (Markesan, Wis.) scored a season-high 26 points to spark the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team to a 73-67 comeback win over Marian on Tuesday night inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half en route to improving to 7-1 on their homecourt this season.

  • The Sabres scored the first seven points of the game and shortly after had a 12-2 lead over the Warriors six minutes into the game.
  • WLC slowly chipped away at the double-digit deficit and trailed by just two points at 20-18 after a layup from sophomore Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) at the eight-minute mark.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran took its first lead of the game with 1:51 left until halftime following a layup from Bernhagen to make the score 29-28. The layup was part of a 10-0 run by the Green and White which culminated with a Goetz three and a 35-28 lead.
  • The Warriors went into halftime in front 35-30 despite shooting 35.3 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Marian netted the first 10 points of the second half and held a 46-42 lead with 12:47 remaining in the contest. The visitors extended their advantage to a game-high 11 points at 53-42 with 11 minutes showing on the clock.
  • WLC trailed 56-51 after a pair of Bernhagen free throws with 7:14 left, and took a 63-61 lead after a quick 5-0 spurt with just over three-and-a-half minutes remaining.
  • A three-point play from Bernhagen made it a two-possession game with just 2:36 left and Wisconsin Lutheran sealed the win by making five of its last six attempts from the charity stripe.
  • Bernhagen finished with 26 points and nine rebounds to lead the Green and White, while Goetz also reached double figures with 10 points.
  • Junior Simeon Strauss (Chicago, Ill.) added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench.
  • The Warriors shot 36.1 percent from the floor, but made up for it at the free throw line by making 24 of their 31 tries.
