Wisconsin Lutheran Locks Down Illinois Tech For 20th Win

CHICAGO, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The No. 11/15 Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team rebounded from a slow start to hold host Illinois Tech to single-digit points in the first three quarters, as the Warriors cruised to a 62-30 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win on Saturday afternoon inside the Keating Sports Center. WLC won its 20th game for the 11th time in program history as it remained perfect on the season.

  • The Warriors missed nine of their first 10 shots of the game and trailed 5-2 with 5:06 left in the first quarter. WLC trailed 7-6 but scored the final six points of the opening quarter to take a 12-7 lead after one. Senior Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) scored the team's final four points of the quarter as the visitors overcame 6-for-16 shooting in the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Green and White held the Scarlet Hawks to just two points through the first nine minutes of the second quarter as they outscored Illinois Tech 19-2 to build a commanding 31-9 lead. Sophomore Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) made two free throws just before the break to give the Warriors a 33-13 halftime lead. Sophomore Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) scored six points in the quarter and finished with eight for the half as WLC shot 47.4 percent from the floor.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran started the second half by scoring the first 12 points while keeping IIT off the scoreboard for over seven-and-a-half minutes as it built a 45-13 lead. The Green and White held the Scarlet Hawks to single-digit points for the third straight quarter as it went into the fourth period with a 48-19 advantage.
  • Illinois Tech netted seven of the first nine points of the fourth quarter, but the Warriors picked up the scoring late. Five different players combined for a 12-0 scoring run as the lead reached a game-high 36 points with just 0:55 seconds remaining.
  • Mace led a balanced attack with a game-high nine points, while Leisemann, sophomore Nicole Jongebloed (Horicon, Wis.), and freshman Mack Hogenson (Neenah, Wis.) finished with eight points each.
  • Junior Simeon Schult (Wausau, Wis.) grabbed a team-high six rebounds in six minutes off the bench. Scott led all players with four assists.
  • WLC outscored IIT 30-10 in points off turnovers, 11-2 in second chance points, 44-18 in the paint, and 14-1 in fastbreak points.
