Fourth Quarter Surge Sends Warriors Past Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Senior Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) and sophomore Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) tied for a game-high 21 points each, as the No. 11/15 Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team erased a 10-point deficit in the third quarter en route to a 55-47 non-conference win over Carthage on Wednesday night inside Tarble Arena. The win sends the Warriors' record to 19-0 with two regular season games remaining.

  • The Warriors were never able to gain a lead in the first quarter, as they shot just 2-for-10 from the floor. The Firebirds, who were 4-for-12 from the field, held an 11-7 lead after the first quarter over WLC. Mace scored five of her team's seven points in the opening period.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran trailed 18-11 less than four minutes into the second quarter and was once again limited to two made field goals in the period. Carthage scored the final three points of the half to take a 21-13 lead over the Green and White at halftime.
  • The Firebirds built a pair of 10-point leads, a game-high, early in the third quarter and still led by nine points at 31-22 with 3:42 on the clock. Six free throws cut the Warriors' deficit down to three, before Carthage carried a 35-31 lead into the final quarter.
  • A 6-0 run capped by a Mace three-point play tied the contest at 37-37 with 8:38 remaining. Two free throws put the hosts back in front, but WLC scored six in a row to take its first lead of the game. Wisconsin Lutheran extended its margin to a game-high eight points with 2:43 to play after a pair of free throws from sophomore Kaitlyn Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.). The Green and White won by that same margin as they shot a blistering 75 percent (9-for-12) in the fourth quarter. Leisemann scored 13 of her 21 points in the period alone on 6-for-7 shooting.
  • Leisemann tied her career high with 21 points to go along with nine rebounds. Mace also finished with 21 points as the duo were the lone Warriors to reach double figures.
  • WLC shot 36.2 percent (17-for-47) from the floor but made up for it at the free throw line by going 18-for-23 for 78.3 percent.
