WLC Opens NACC Tournament With First Round Shutout

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The fourth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament play with a 5-0 win over fifth-seeded MSOE on Monday in a first round match at Hart Park. The Warriors advance to the NACC Tournament Semifinal for the second straight year.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (11-10), MSOE (6-13)
• Location: Hart Park, Wauwatosa, Wis.

• The Warriors took control of the tournament match by winning all three doubles matches over the Raiders. Sophomores Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) and Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) posted an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen Haley Olson (Appleton, Wis.) and Kayla Roethke (Hartford, Wis.) also earned an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles to give WLC a 3-0 lead.
• Wisconsin Lutheran needed just two victories in singles play to clinch the match over MSOE. The Green and White gained wins at No. 2 singles where Smith secured a 6-3, 6-2 win. Hawley also shutout her opponent at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0. The matches at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles went unfinished.
