DE PERE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College saw its three-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday by St. Norbert, 3-1, at the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Warriors (3-5, 1-1 NACC) fell in four sets to the Green Knights (5-5, 2-0 NACC) in their first NACC road match by scores of 25-12, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22.
SNC started off hot in the first set, jumping out to a 16-8 lead. Freshman
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) brought WLC within seven with a kill, but it was not enough as St. Norbert finished the set on a 9-3 run.
The second set was another lopsided start, with the Green Knights sprinting out to a 10-3 advantage. Two straight kills by senior
Rebecca Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) helped Wisconsin Lutheran back into the set as it trailed 14-12. Sophomore
Kylee Gnabasik (Jefferson, Wis.) went on a quick serving spree to give the Warriors a 22-21 lead in the set, but SNC managed to pull out the set two victory, 25-23.
In the third, WLCÂ broke away from a 17-17 tie for a 22-17 lead led by two service aces and a kill from senior
Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.). St. Norbert evened the match at 24-24 before kills from Wigley and Charron sealed a 26-24 win for Wisconsin Lutheran.
The fourth set featured 10 ties and four lead changes, as the Warriors led 15-10 only to see the Green Knights even up the set. WLC trailed 22-19 but tied the set up for the fourth time at 22 apiece. SNC took advantage of three Wisconsin Lutheran errors to score the final three points and win the set 25-22.
The Warriors hit .088 behind 46 kills against 33 errors in 148 attempts. Wigley led WLC with a match-high 13 kills and Charron contributed a double-double with 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs. Senior
Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) dished out 20 assists.
St. Norbert, which hit .150 on 40 kills, 20 errors, and 133 attempts, received 12 kills each from Brooke Clement and Rylie Gregg.
