RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College suffered its first NACC loss of the season on Saturday, falling 3-1 to conference preseason favorite Dominican at West Campus Field.
The Stars (6-1-1, 3-1-0 NACC) took an early 1-0 lead over the Warriors (5-2-1, 2-1-1 NACC) in the 10th minute on a goal from Nick Kowalczyk, assisted by Zachary Gamster and John Cronnolly. Robert Cruz gave DU a 2-0 lead at halftime after he scored in the 39th minute unassisted.
Dominican extended its lead to 3-0 in the 58th minute on a goal from Matt Skorupa, assisted by Kowalczyk.
WLC, which out-shot the Stars 7-3 in the second half, broke through for its first goal in the 66th minute when senior
Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) netted his league-leading eighth goal of the season. Senior
Joseph Raasch (Germantown, Wis.) assisted on the score.
Wisconsin Lutheran was narrowly out-shot 13-12 but held a 4-2 edge on corner kicks. Cano and junior
Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.) led the team with three shots each.
Sophomore
Bryce Beckley (Waterford, Wis.) and junior
Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) combined for three saves while splitting time in goal.
