MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Junior
Grayson Goetz's (Aurora, Ill.) go-ahead layup with 0:55 seconds left helped lift Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 68-64 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday at the Time of Grace Center. The win was the Warriors' fifth straight over the Raiders and sixth consecutive in conference play.
WLC (9-6, 7-2 NACC) held a 4-3 lead less than two minutes into the action following a jumper from Goetz. MSOEÂ (8-6, 4-3 NACC) responded with a 9-0 scoring run for a 12-4 advantage with just over 16 minutes remaining in the first half. Wisconsin Lutheran came within 14-10, but a 7-0 run from Milwaukee School of Engineering later extended its lead to a game-high 12 points, forcing a Warriors timeout at the 10:49 mark.
A pair of free throws from junior
Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) brought WLC's deficit down to only three points with 3:11 left, but the Raiders went into halftime holding a 39-33 lead.
MSOE stretched its lead to eight points just over two-and-a-half minutes into the second half and maintained a lead between three and five points for the next seven-plus minutes. A 5-0 spurt from Wisconsin Lutheran knotted the score at 55-55 at the 8:57 mark thanks to a three from senior
Trevor Stiede (Pulaski, Wis.) and a layup by Broeckel.Â
Milwaukee School of Engineering jumped back ahead 62-58 with 7:31 remaining, but another five-point run by the Warriors put them in front 63-62 at the 4:10 mark. The Raiders went back ahead one last time at 64-63 before consecutive buckets from Goetz, sandwiched in between a turnover, gave WLC a 67-64 lead with just 0:27 seconds on the clock. MSOE had two chances from beyond the arc to even the score, but couldn't connect and were forced to foul after a rebound from Broeckel. Senior
