Warriors Blitz Cougars Behind Ten Pas' Career Game

Sophomore tallies 24 points and 16 rebounds

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Sophomore Ella Ten Pas (Oostburg, Wis.) scored a career-high 24 points and matched a career-high with 16 rebounds to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 79-40 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday at Geiseman Gymnasium.

The Warriors (11-6, 8-2 NACC) scored the first nine points of the game and held to Cougars (8-8, 7-4 NACC) to just one made field goal in the opening quarter. WLC, which led 19-1 before CUC made its first shot from the floor with 2:10 remaining, led 23-3 after one quarter behind 52.9 percent shooting and nine points from Ten Pas.

Wisconsin Lutheran held a 30-point lead at the 6:10 mark of the second quarter following a three-pointer by sophomore Ainsley Howard (Jefferson, Wis.). Concordia Chicago answered with a 12-0 scoring run to close within 15 points with 1:53 left until halftime. The Warriors went into the locker room at the break with a 37-20 lead.

WLC came out of halftime by shooting 60 percent in the third quarter and had a lead of at least 20 points for the final 6:41 of the period. A 13-1 scoring run elevated the visiting team's lead to to 35 points at 63-28 with just over a minute left. Wisconsin Lutheran went into the final frame with a 63-32 advantage.

The Warriors doubled up the Cougars in the scoring column in the fourth quarter, as they led by a game-high 42 points with 6:44 remaining after a pair of free throws from sophomore Janiyah Goner (Milwaukee, Wis.). WLC moved into sole possession of third place in the league after winning its third straight game by an average of 39.6 points.

Ten Pas posted her third double-double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds on 10-for-14 shooting. Junior Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) added 15 points and five assists, while junior Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) was the third player in double figures with 14 points. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 45.3 percent (29-for-64) for the game and set season highs for rebounds (55), assists (22), and blocked shots (5).

Jaylene Wade scored eight points to lead CUC, which was held to 25.5 percent (14-for-55) shooting for the game.
