WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College's quest for a second straight home unbeaten season came to an end on Saturday in a 1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference loss to Illinois Tech at a rain-soaked Warriors Soccer Field.
The Warriors (8-6-2, 6-5-0 NACC), who hadn't lost a home game since October 18, 2021, came up short in their eighth and final regular season home game to the Scarlet Hawks (5-8-6, 4-6-1 NACC).
WLC and IIT played through a scoreless opening half, as both teams tallied two shots on frame. Freshmen
Ethan Sprengel (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Drew Brandt (Valparaiso, Ind.) had both shots on target for Wisconsin Lutheran.
Ten minutes into the second half, Illinois Tech's Maciek Matusiak gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage when his long-range shot from Christian Garcia found its way into the bottom right corner. The Warriors outshot the Scarlet Hawks 9-4 in the second half, but freshman
Hector Cervantes' (Milwaukee, Wis.) shot on frame in the 84th minute was the only shot that needed to be stopped over the final 45 minutes.
Freshman
Aydan Scortino (Pewaukee, Wis.) tallied a team-high three shots for WLC, which outshot IIT 12-6 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior
Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made three saves.
Wisconsin Lutheran travels to MSOEÂ (13-1-3, 9-0-2 NACC) on Wednesday for the pivotal NACC regular season finale at 7 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
