MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College battled with five-time defending NACC champion Aurora for the first two sets, but the Spartans pulled away for a 3-1 win over the Warriors on Thursday at the Time of Grace Center.
WLC (7-10, 3-2 NACC) fell in four sets to AU (11-8, 5-0 NACC) by scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-11, 25-13. Wisconsin Lutheran, which hit .142 with 42 kills, 23 errors, and 134 attempts, held a 22-19 lead over Aurora in the first set, but couldn't close out the opener.
Sophomore
Lily Schuetz (Lake Mills, Wis.) led the Warriors with 11 kills. JuniorsÂ
Grace Frey (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Amahra Matthai (Plover, Wis.) added seven kills apiece. Juniors
Karah Valerio (Pewaukee, Wis.) and
Emma Incaprero (Mauston, Wis.) distributed 21 and 14 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Matthai finished with a season-high five block assists. Junior
Kylee Gnabasik (Jefferson, Wis.) tallied a match-high 23 digs, while senior
Courtney Andras (Oxford, Mich.) added a career-high 12 digs.
