Men's Basketball Bounces UW-La Crosse For Sixth Straight Win

Broeckel records 27-point, 16-rebound double-double

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Senior Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) recorded season-highs of 27 points and 16 rebounds to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to an 84-72 non-conference win over UW-La Crosse on Saturday at the Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (7-1), who have defeated two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents in the same season for the first time in program history, shot over 50 percent in the second half for the third time this season en route to the 12-point win over the Eagles (5-5).

WLC used an 11-0 scoring run, the largest of the game, just over six minutes in to jump out to a 17-7 lead over UWL. La Crosse evened the score at 22-22 at the 6:50 mark and grabbed a 28-26 lead with 4:47 remaining. The Eagles continued to hold a slim lead until senior Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) sank a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to send Wisconsin Lutheran into the locker room tied 35-35, the seventh deadlock of the opening 20 minutes. Stoltz and senior Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) scored 10 points each in the first half.

The opening seven minutes of the second half featured five lead changes and four ties. Trailing 47-46, the Warriors rattled off a 19-3 scoring run, keyed by nine points from Broeckel, to build a game-high 15-point lead at 65-50 with 8:56 remaining. UWL trimmed its deficit to 67-61, forcing a WLC timeout with 6:40 left, but Wisconsin Lutheran came out of the break with six of the next seven points to open an 11-point advantage. The Warriors maintained at least an eight-point lead over the final 5:03 before netting the last four points from the charity stripe for the 12-point margin. WLC, which shot 54.8 percent in the second half, was led by Broeckel's 21 points and 10 rebounds. Goetz added 11 points.

Broeckel finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Goetz tallied 21 points and five assists, while Stoltz rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points and five assists. Senior AJ Vos (Lombard, Ill.) blocked a career-high five shots. Wisconsin Lutheran outscored La Crosse 28-8 on turnovers and 46-30 in the paint. The Warriors wrapped up the game shooting 47.6 percent (30-for-63) from the floor.

Mack Sebert came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points for the Eagles, who shot 45.8 percent (27-for-59) from the field.

WLC travels to Fond du Lac on Saturday, December 16 for a 4 p.m. NACC matchup against Marian (0-8, 0-4 NACC). Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
