APPLETON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College won its third straight road match on Saturday, knocking off Lawrence 5-4 in non-conference action at Fox Cities Racquet Club.
The Warriors (3-7) picked up a pair of wins over the Vikings (1-8) in doubles play to start the match. Sophomore
Aidan Newberg (Manitowoc, Wis.) and freshman
Zadic Torline (Shawnee, Kan.) teamed up for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. Junior
Matt Bass (Village of Lakewood, Ill.) and freshman
Connor Heezen (Pulaski, Wis.) collected an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.Â
LU appeared to take control after earning wins at each of the first three singles positions, including two via three-set tiebreak. Junior
Bryce Halvorsen (Kewaskum, Wis.) was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 4, while Heezen had a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 6. Bass put Wisconsin Lutheran over the top at No. 5 with his 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 comeback win to clinch the non-conference victory.
The Warriors return to the courts next weekend for two home contests, starting Friday with a 10 a.m. non-conference match against Simpson (1-5) at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club in Jackson.
