CLERMONT, Fla. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College collected a split in the first two games of its Florida trip on Sunday at Hancock Park. The Warriors fell 6-1 in their opening game to Macalester before defeating New England 4-1 in game two.
The Scots (7-2) took a 1-0 lead over the Warriors (2-2) in the top of the second of game one on a two-out single that scored a runner from third. WLC knotted the score at 1-1 in its half of the second when sophomore
Olivia Krieser's (Stoughton, Wis.) sac fly to left brought home junior
Maddy Chestolowski (Appleton, Wis.).
An unearned run in the third inning gave MC a 2-1 after the first two runners reached via error. Macalester broke the game open in the fifth with four runs on six hits for a 6-1 lead.Â
WLC, which was retired in order in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, loaded the bases in the sixth but a flyout ended a possible two-out rally.
Junior
Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) had two of Wisconsin Lutheran's four hits for the game. Sophomore
Callie Terrill (Minooka, Ill.) took the loss in the circle after allowing four earned runs over 4.1 innings while striking out a pair.
The Pilgrims (0-4) plated a first-inning run on two hits for an early 1-0 lead in game two.Â
After stranding a runner on base in each of the first two frames, the Warriors scored four times on four hits in the fourth. Sophomores
Cara Velez (Chicago, Ill.) and
Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.) each had RBI singles in the inning after WLC loaded the bases with just one out.
Wisconsin Lutheran surrendered just one base runner over the final four innings to lock down the 4-1 win.
Seven players posted one hit each for the Warriors in the victory. Sophomore
