Long Ball Leads Wisconsin Lutheran To Another Split

Three players homer in game one win over Mount Saint Mary

CLERMONT, Fla. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College scored six runs over three innings, including three solo home runs, for a 6-1 win over Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday at Hancock Park. The Warriors fell to Simpson 11-0 in five innings in their second game of the day.

WLC (4-4), which was hitless through the first three innings of the opener, trailed the Knights (3-3) 1-0 after a two-out RBI single to center in the third. Wisconsin Lutheran's first two hits of the game led to a pair of runs in the fourth. Junior Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) smashed her second home run in as many days to center to even the score at 1-1. Junior Addison Gelande's (Port Byron, Ill.) two-out double to right center brought home sophomore Gwen Malecke (Gilberts, Ill.) from first for the 2-1 lead.

The Warriors plated two more runs in the fifth behind solo home runs to left field from sophomores Jackey Farias (San Diego, Calif.) and Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.). WLC added two more insurance runs in the sixth, capitalizing off a trio of MSMC miscues. Gelande and freshman Kim Sengbusch (Westfield, Wis.) crossed the plate after junior Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) reached on a throwing error.

Wisconsin Lutheran executed double plays in both the sixth and seventh innings to avoid any rally from Mount Saint Mary.

Farias, Gelande, Martin, and Peterson posted a hit and RBI each in the win for the Warriors. Sophomore Melissa Tonn (West Allis, Wis.) allowed one run on three hits while striking out a pair to improve to 4-0 on the year in the circle.

The Storm (9-3) scored eight runs, all unearned, off just four hits in the bottom of the second to take a commanding game two lead over WLC. SC scored its final three runs in the fourth on three hits to open up a double-digit advantage.

Wisconsin Lutheran put a pair of runners on base in the second, third, and fifth innings but couldn't manufacture any runs.

Malecke had two of the Warriors' three hits in the game. Sophomore Callie Terrill (Minooka, Ill.) suffered the loss despite not allowing an earned run among the six she was charged with over 1.2 innings.

WLC is off tomorrow but returns to the diamond on Thursday for two games in Winter Haven, Florida against Augsburg (9-2) and Endicott (3-3) at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. ET. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
