JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped its spring home opener to UW-Superior, 6-3, on Sunday in non-conference action at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club.
The Warriors' (7-8) No. 1 doubles team of juniors
Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) and
Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) were 8-2 winners over the Yellowjackets (2-6). UWS won the later two doubles competitions by scores of 8-7 (7-5) and 8-4.
Junior
Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and sophomore
Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) each outlasted their opponents in three-sets during singles play. Hawley was a 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 winner at No. 2, while Schmidt battled back for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory at No. 3. UW-Superior had straight set wins at the four remaining singles positions over WLC.
Wisconsin Lutheran returns to the court on Saturday, March 25 for a 12 p.m. non-conference match against North Park (6-5) at Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Illinois.
