DE PERE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College was swept by St. Norbert 3-0 on Tuesday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
The Warriors (4-12, 0-3 NACC) were defeated by the Green Knights (6-9, 3-1 NACC) in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 25-23). WLC, which trailed 6-1 to start the first set, came within 16-13 but would get no closer. A back-and-forth second set featured 14 ties and nine lead changes. Wisconsin Lutheran held its last lead at 16-15, before SNC broke a 22-22 tie by tallying the last three points. In the third set, the Warriors held four leads, including 18-16 when St. Norbert scored six of the next seven to take the lead for good.
WLC hit .078 in the match with 29 kills, 20 errors, and 115 total attacks. Sophomore
James Biedenbender (La Crosse, Wis.) recorded a career-high 10 kills to lead Wisconsin Lutheran. Sophomore
Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) posted his first career double-double with 20 assists and 16 digs. Freshman
Connor Haeuser (West Bend, Wis.) had a season-high four service aces.
Jake Krueger collected a match-high 11 kills for the Green Knights, who hit .195 in the match with 41 kills, 18 errors, and 118 attempts.
The Warriors travel to Chicago on Saturday for a triangular with host Illinois Tech (5-10, 1-1 NACC) and Baldwin Wallace (16-3). WLC will face the Scarlet Hawks at 1 p.m. followed by the Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
