WLC Stumbles Against Hot-Hitting Concordia Chicago

Raabe drives in five runs for Warriors

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College ran into a hot-hitting Concordia Chicago offense on Monday, as the Warriors dropped both games of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader to the Cougars by scores of 19-9 and 32-8 in seven innings at Cougar Field.

WLC (2-17, 1-7 NACC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead over CUC (11-11, 4-4 NACC) through two-and-a-half innings. A two-run double from sophomore Noah Zaccanti (Geneva, Ill.) and a RBI triple from freshman Kason McFadden (Sachse, Texas) gave Wisconsin Lutheran a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Freshman Eli Michaelis (Wauwatosa, Wis.) scored on a fielder's choice from junior Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) in the third for a 4-0 advantage.

Concordia Chicago countered by plating all of its runs over the next four frames, including a seven spot in the bottom of the third.

The Warriors loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth inning, but were held to just one run as Engelhardt drew a walk that brought home sophomore Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis.). WLC's final four runs came in the sixth inning on a RBI single from Shevey, a second bases loaded walk drawn by Engelhardt, and a two-RBI single from senior Carter Raabe (Mukwonago, Wis.).

Michaelis and Zaccanti each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Engelhardt drove in three runs, while Zaccanti and Raabe drove in pair each.

The Cougars scored in every inning of the nightcap, including a 13-run frame in the sixth inning.

Wisconsin Lutheran plated a single run in the second inning when Engelhardt scored after freshman Lucas Oswald (Muskego, Wis.) reached on a throwing error. The Warriors added a five-spot in the fifth on a three-run blast from Raabe followed by a two-run shot from senior Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.). A RBI single from McFadden and a sac fly from freshman Tim Frerking (Oconomowoc, Wis.) accounted for WLC's final runs of the game in the sixth.

Cain and McFadden collected two hits each for Wisconsin Lutheran, while Raabe and Cain drove in three and two runs, respectively.

Wisconsin Lutheran remains on the road Friday for two NACC games against Rockford (8-14, 3-5 NACC). First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Pohlman Field in Beloit. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
