Wisconsin Lutheran Suffers Home Sweep To Eagles

Huff leads Warriors with four hits

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College suffered its first home Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference sweep of the season to Benedictine on Saturday at Neumann Family Field. The Eagles defeated the Warriors 14-0 in five innings in game one and 8-3 in game two.

Both teams stranded a pair of runners on base in the opening frame as game one remained scoreless through two innings. BenU (16-8, 6-4 NACC) busted through with 11 runs on 12 hits in the third inning to take control of the opener. Benedictine scored three times on four hits in the third to account for all of its scoring.

Freshmen Emily Cardenas (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and Kim Sengbusch (Westfield, Wis.) and sophomores Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) and Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.) each had a hit for WLC (9-15, 2-8 NACC) in the opener.

Wisconsin Lutheran tallied two hits in each of the first two innings of game two, but was unable to plate any runs as the contest was scoreless through three frames.

A bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly in the fourth inning gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead. BenU added to its total with four runs in the fifth on three hits and an additional two in the sixth on a trio of hits.

Following a lengthy weather delay, the Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back RBI doubles from Huff and junior Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.). Huff made it an 8-3 game in the seventh with a one-out single that plated Cardenas. WLC had more scoring chances, but stranded two runners on base in each of the last two innings.

Huff finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in game two, while Corley went 2-for-4 with a RBI.

WLC wraps up a six-game homestand next Thursday, April 20 when it hosts Dominican (16-6, 5-3 NACC) for a 3 p.m. NACC doubleheader at Neumann Family Field. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
