Martin Sets Warriors' Career RBI Mark Against MSOE

WLC drops Sunday doubleheader to Raiders

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Junior Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) became Wisconsin Lutheran College's career RBI leader on Sunday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep to Milwaukee School of Engineering at Neumann Family Field. The Warriors fell to the Raiders by scores of 13-0 and 7-4.

WLC fell behind 4-0 in the first inning as MSOE (21-9, 13-3 NACC) scored four runs, three unearned, on four hits. The visitors piled on eight runs on eight hits in the second inning to take control of the opener. Milwaukee School of Engineering's final run came in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single.

Sophomore Gwen Malecke (Gilberts, Ill.) recorded Wisconsin Lutheran's lone hit in the opener. Martin reached base twice on walks. Freshman Noli Hillmann (Brookfield, Ill.) tossed a three-up, three-down relief inning in her collegiate debut.

The Raiders plated three first-inning runs on three hits to start game two. Following four straight scoreless frames from both teams, MSOE added three runs in the sixth on three hits for the six-run advantage.

The Warriors broke through with a run in the sixth when Martin scored on a fielding error that allowed sophomore Cara Velez (Chicago, Ill.) to reach safely.

After a run from Milwaukee School of Engineering in the top of the seventh, WLC strung together five consecutive hits with two outs. Junior Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) doubled in freshman Emily Cardenas (Lake Stevens, Wash.), Martin broke the school's career RBI record when she singled home Corley, and sophomore Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) followed two batters later with a single that scored Martin. The Raiders escaped further damage by leaving two runners stranded on base.

Martin finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI, putting her at 83 runs career runs driven in. Sophomore Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.) added two hits. Freshman Emily Brands (Zeeland, Mich.) threw a pair of shutout relief innings in the circle.

Wisconsin Lutheran (9-19, 2-12 NACC) hosts Chicago (19-8-1) on Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader at Neumann Family Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
