WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Third-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College shutout sixth-seeded Lakeland 5-0 on Tuesday in a 2023 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament First Round match at Hart Park.
The Warriors (9-9), who won a NACC Tournament First Round match for the third straight season, were victorious over the Muskies (5-9) for the 10th straight time in their series.
WLC took all three doubles matches from LU to start tournament competition. Juniors
Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) and
Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) downed Lakeland's Sadie Conway and Mary Blossom 8-3 at No. 1. Juniors
Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and
Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) doubled up Olivia Heling and Kassidee Webb 8-4 at No. 2. Sophomores
Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) and
Haley Olson (Appleton, Wis.) bested Baylee Babcock and Morgan Erbstoesser 8-2 at No. 3.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran closed out the conference tournament win with two singles victories. Schmidt secured a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Babcock and Hawley clinched the match at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Webb. The remaining four singles matches went unfinished.
Wisconsin Lutheran travels to Madison on Friday for a NACC Tournament Semifinal matchup against second-seeded Edgewood (12-8). First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Quann Park.
