JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College bounced back from its first conference loss of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Edgewood on Friday in non-conference action at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club.
The Warriors (9-10), who secured their fourth sweep of the season, snapped a 10-match losing streak to the Eagles (2-4) with their first win since 2013.Â
WLC took a 3-0 lead over EC after doubles competition. Sophomores
Aidan Newberg (Manitowoc, Wis.) and
Asa White (Farmington, N.M.) teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1. Junior
Jon Kannenberg (Butler, Wis.) and freshman
Zadic Torline (Shawnee, Kan.) partnered for an 8-7 (8-1) victory at No. 2. At No. 3, juniors
Matt Bass (Village of Lakewood, Ill.) and
Bryce Halvorsen (Kewaskum, Wis.) collected an 8-1 triumph.
Wisconsin Lutheran won all six singles contests, including Newberg (6-1, 5-7, 10-5), White (6-1, 6-2), Kannenberg (6-1, 6-3), Torline (6-0, 6-2), Halvorsen (6-1, 6-0), and senior
Josh Hennen (Slinger, Wis.) (6-0, 6-0).
The Warriors play their final NACC regular season home match next Saturday against Illinois Tech (6-12, 5-1 NACC). First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club in Jackson.
