AURORA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College opened its final weekend of the 2023 season with a 3-0 loss to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference leader Aurora on Friday at Thornton Gymnasium.
The Warriors (4-21, 0-11 NACC) fell in three sets to the Spartans (15-10, 11-1 NACC) by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-14. WLC trailed 15-14 in the first set before AU closed out the set with a 10-2 scoring run. In the second set, Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 7-2 lead but Aurora turned the tables and built a 19-11 lead. The Warriors closed within four late, but dropped the second set. WLC wasn't able to grab a lead in the third set, as the Spartans used a 7-0 run to break away from a slim two-point advantage.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran hit .022 for the match behind 18 kills, 16 errors, and 90 total attacks. Freshman
Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) led the Warriors with six kills, while sophomore
Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) distributed 15 assists. Freshman
Connor Haeuser (West Bend, Wis.) served up a trio of aces. Freshman
Trevor Salutric (Lockport, Ill.) led the team with nine digs.
Mateo Scharosch had nine kills and hit .400 to lead AU, which hit .250 as a team with 37 kills, 14 errors, and 92 attacks.
