Wisconsin Lutheran Drops NACC Twinbill To Eagles

Martin leads Warriors with three hits

VERONA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped both ends of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader to Edgewood on Saturday at Ceniti Park. The Warriors fell to the Eagles 10-1 in five innings in the opener and 6-0 in game two.

WLC (5-11, 0-4 NACC) took a 1-0 lead over EC (13-8, 3-2 NACC) in the fourth inning of game one. Junior Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) belted a one-out double to left center and sophomore Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.) followed with a single to left. Martin stole home during the next at-bat to give Wisconsin Lutheran a one-run lead.

Edgewood erupted for 10 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control of the contest. The Warriors put runners on second and third in the fifth inning, but couldn't bring them home as the game ended via run-rule.

Martin went 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Peterson and juniors Addison Gelande (Port Byron, Ill.) and Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) had a hit apiece.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning of game two, aided by four hits and two errors. EC added four runs on four hits in the fifth inning for a 6-0 lead, which proved to be the final score.

WLC was held to just two hits in the nightcap, coming off the bats of Martin and sophomore Cara Velez (Chicago, Ill.).

Wisconsin Lutheran next hosts Concordia Chicago (9-11-1, 2-3-1 NACC) for its home opener on Monday at Neumann Family Field. First pitch of the NACC doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
