Women's Tennis Topped By UW-La Crosse In Season Opener

First-ever meeting between the two teams

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College opened its 2023-2024 season on Friday with a 9-0 non-conference loss to UW-La Crosse at Hart Park. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Seniors Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) and Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) suffered an 8-6 setback to the Eagles' Shelby Roth and Hannah Cady at No. 1 doubles. Seniors Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) and Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) fell short 8-5 to Izzy Schmiesing and Maia Samuelson at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, WLC's (0-1) Hawley dropped a close 6-4, 6-3 decision to UWL's (1-0) Cady at No. 4.

Wisconsin Lutheran begins conference play next week when it travels to Lakeland (0-0) on Wednesday, September 6 for a 4:30 p.m. NACC match at the Sports Core in Kohler.
