Football Falls To Foresters In Season Opener

Goodwin leads all players with 10 tackles

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped its 2023 season opener to Lake Forest 24-0 under the lights on Saturday at Raabe Stadium.

The Foresters (1-0), two-time defending champions of the Midwest Conference, took advantage of consecutive three-and-out first quarter possessions by the Warriors (0-1). Touchdown runs of three and 17 yards gave LFC a 14-0 lead over WLC after the first quarter.

Wisconsin Lutheran crossed into Lake Forest territory for the first time on its first possession of the second quarter, but a fumble stalled the drive at the opponents 27-yard line. The Foresters forced three punts and blocked a 20-yard field goal just before halftime to preserve their 14-0 lead.

LFC scored on back-to-back drives midway through the third quarter, the first coming on a 18-yard touchdown pass and what proved to be the game's final points on a 27-yard field goal. WLC's longest drive of the game came on its last possession of the contest, as it went 56 yards on seven plays before turning the ball over on downs inside the Lake Forest red zone.

Wisconsin Lutheran was held to 160 yards of total offense, compared to 445 for the Foresters. Senior Trevion Green (Miami, Fla.) finished with a game-high seven catches for 65 yards. Junior Savon Goodwin (New Orleans, La.) led all players with 10 tackles.

The Warriors continue their non-conference schedule next Saturday when they travel to Waukesha to take on Carroll (0-1) for the Glazers Bowl - Presented by Kwik Trip. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. with live coverage links available at WLCSports.com.
