MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) -Â Wisconsin Lutheran College struggled to find an offensive rhythm in a 41-0 Lutheran Bowl loss to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foe Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday at Tomasini Stadium.
The Warriors (0-4, 0-2 NACC), who turned the ball over three times in the opening quarter, trailed the Falcons (3-1, 2-0 NACC) 6-0 following a 10-yard interception return for a touchdown with 2:48 left in the first quarter. CUW's lone second quarter score came on a one-yard run on its first drive of the quarter. WLC's second trip into Concordia Wisconsin territory stalled at the 5:45 mark after an 11-play, 55-yard drive and the score remained 13-0 through halftime.
Following a 39-yard kickoff return to start the second half from sophomore
Jamil Gordon (San Marcos, Texas), Wisconsin Lutheran drove down to the Falcons' 18-yard line. However, CUW halted the drive with a sack on 4th-and-2. Concordia Wisconsin then scored on back-to-back possessions midway through the third quarter after forcing a pair of Warriors punts.Â
The Falcons scored on their only two fourth quarter possessions, first forcing a fumble that they converted into a short rushing touchdown, and another taking over eight minutes off the clock on a 13-play, 57-yard drive.
The Warriors, who were out-gained 374-199, were held to eight 3-and-out drives. Sophomore quarterback
Trey Thomas (Dallas, Texas) passed for 89 yards, sophomore running back
Javier Murillo (San Antonio, Texas) rushed for 52 yards, and senior
Trevion Green (Miami, Fla.) caught seven passes for 73 yards.
Sophomore
Layson Handwork (Merritt Island, Fla.) led three double-digit tacklers for WLC with 12, including 1.5 sacks. Graduate student
Jake Antczak (Mukwonago, Wis.) added 11 tackles, and junior
Savon Goodwin (New Orleans, La.) collected 10.
Wisconsin Lutheran returns home to Raabe Stadium next Saturday for Homecoming versus Rockford (1-3, 0-2 NACC) at 1 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
