Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season and became the 19th member of Wisconsin Lutheran College's 1,000-point club following a 74-28 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Chicago on Wednesday at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Warriors (13-4, 8-1 NACC), who held an opponent to a season-low 28 points for the second time this season, extended their winning streak to eight games with the road win over the Cougars (5-12, 2-7 NACC).
WLC erased a brief 2-1 deficit with an 8-0 scoring run more than midway through the first quarter. Wisconsin Lutheran netted 10 points in the paint in the opening period, as it held a 15-6 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.
The Warriors clamped down on CUC in the second period, holding the hosts scoreless on 0-for-15 shooting from the floor. Freshman
Margie Stevens (Oneida, Wis.) tallied nine points in the second quarter, as WLC went into halftime with a commanding 34-6 cushion.
Wisconsin Lutheran scored the first 14 points of the third quarter, including nine from Leisemann, to build a 48-6 lead. Leisemann's layup at the 4:30 mark put her over 1,000 points for her career and the Warriors' advantage climbed to 42 points at 54-12. WLC, which shot a game-high 58.8 percent in the third period, carried a 59-18 lead into the final frame. Leisemann netted 15 of Wisconsin Lutheran's 25 points in the period.
A 9-0 fourth-quarter run by the Warriors pushed their lead to a game-high 48 points at 70-22 after a layup from junior
Haley Ott (Germantown, Wis.). Sophomore
Madison Lineback (Marseilles, Ill.) netted the team's final four points of the contest as WLC coasted to the 46-point victory.Â
Leisemann finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds, both game-highs, for her ninth double-double of the season. Stevens added 15 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Sophomore
Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) chipped in with eight rebounds, six points, and four steals. Wisconsin Lutheran, which shot 46 percent (29-for-63) from the floor, outscored Concordia Chicago 46-10 in the paint and 25-3 off turnovers.
Alexis Desjarlait scored five points for the Cougars, who were held to 16.4 percent (9-for-55) shooting.
