WLC Shuts Down Dominican For 10th Straight Victory

Fewest points allowed since February 8, 2022

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College allowed a season-low 26 points while extending its winning streak to 10 games following a 79-26 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over Dominican on Wednesday at the Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (15-4, 10-1 NACC), who allowed the fewest points since February 8, 2022 when they gave up just 16 to Alverno, saw their winning streak reach 10 games for the first time in two seasons with their five straight win over the Stars (1-19, 0-11 NACC).

WLC held DU scoreless for the first six minutes of the opening quarter while surging out to a 13-0 lead behind six points from freshman Margie Stevens (Oneida, Wis.). The 13-point run was Wisconsin Lutheran's largest of the game. The Warriors were able to extend their lead to 20 points, leading 24-4 after 10 minutes of action while shooting 64.7 percent from the floor.

Senior Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) started the second quarter for WLC with a three-point play and Wisconsin Lutheran continued to build on its lead. The Warriors closed out the final three minutes on a 9-0 run sparked by five points from junior Haley Ott (Germantown, Wis.) and WLC took a 48-11 lead into the locker room.

Wisconsin Lutheran continued to pour in points and a three from junior Janiyah Goner (Milwaukee, Wis.) forced Dominican to take a timeout with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter. Goner finished a layup as time expired, which gave the Warriors a 68-19 advantage heading into the final quarter of action.

WLC limited the Stars to single-digit points again in the fourth quarter. Freshman Marin Riesen (Watertown, Wis.) netted the final points of the contest for Wisconsin Lutheran, which coasted to the 53-point win.

Stevens scored a game-high 13 points for the Warriors, while Leisemann added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Goner and sophomore Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) both chipped in nine points. Junior Ainsley Howard (Jefferson, Wis.) dished out a game-high five assists. WLC shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63) from the field, tied a season-high with 50 rebounds, and committed just six turnovers.

Rawan Almoaiber scored a team-high eight points off the bench for Dominican, which shot 19.6 percent (11-for-56) for the game.
