WLC Bounces Back Behind Broeckel's Double-Double

Warriors improve to 6-0 at home this season

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Senior Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) recorded his third double-double of the season and Wisconsin Lutheran College bounced back from consecutive losses with an 83-63 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday at the Time of the Grace Center.

The Warriors (11-3, 6-1 NACC), who improved to 6-0 on their homecourt this season, won their seventh straight over the Raiders (5-9, 2-5 NACC) in the all-time series.

MSOE jumped out to a 7-2 lead two-and-a-half minutes into the first half before seven straight from WLC gave them a 9-7 lead at the 15:44 mark. It was the first of three lead changes in the opening 20 minutes. With the contest tied for the fifth time at 27-27, Wisconsin Lutheran used an 8-0 scoring run to take a 35-27 lead with under four minutes left before halftime. Freshman Dom Hill (Waukesha, Wis.) netted five points during the team's largest scoring run of the half. A three-pointer from senior Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) maintained the lead at eight with a minute-and-a-half left, before the halftime score read 40-34 in favor of the Warriors. Broeckel led all first-half scorers with 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting.

The two teams traded baskets to open the second-half scoring, but a 9-0 scoring run from WLC, the largest of the game, opened up a 51-36 lead with 16 minutes to play. The Raiders trailed by eight with 10:48 remaining before another 10-2 scoring run extended Wisconsin Lutheran's advantage to 67-51 with seven minutes left. MSOE came no closer than 12 points the rest of the way, and the Warriors' lead reached 20 points for the first time after a pair of Broeckel free throws with 3:05 remaining. The lead grew to a game-high 22 points twice before the final horn sounded. Broeckel again paced all scorers in the second half with 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting, as WLC connected on 56.7 percent shooting from the floor.

Broeckel finished with 26 points on 11-for-13 shooting, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Senior Jacob Hefle (Germantown, Wis.) followed with 17 points and five rebounds. Senior Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) added 12 points and six rebounds, while Goetz chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Wisconsin Lutheran, which outscored Milwaukee School of Engineering 48-30 in the paint, shot 52.5 percent (32-for-61) from the floor.

Mason Dopirak scored 18 points to lead the Raiders, who shot 41.8 percent (23-for-55) for the game.

The Warriors continue their three-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Lakeland (5-9, 3-4 NACC) at 7 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
