WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College bounced back from a midweek loss with a 4-3 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual win over Illinois Tech on Saturday at Hart Park.
The Warriors (5-5, 4-4 NACC) lost the doubles point to the Scarlet Hawks (3-5, 3-3 NACC), who came away with wins at No. 1 (6-0) and No. 2 (7-5). Junior
Desirae Pugh (Ixonia, Wis.) and freshman
Tai Mitchell (Elm Grove, Wis.) denied IIT the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Ashley Dame and Rhea Karumuru at No. 3.
WLC came out on top in four of the six singles matches. Sophomore
Maddy Olson (Onalaska, Wis.) defeated Hannah Markiewicz 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 and freshman
Joelle Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) won her team-leading seventh singles match of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Paige Geiger at No. 3. Mitchell picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Angelica Conwell at No. 5, and Pugh survived in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 over Karumuru at No. 6.
Wisconsin Lutheran wraps up its fall conference slate on Wednesday when it hosts Concordia Chicago (3-8, 3-4 NACC) at 3:30 p.m at Hart Park.
