WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College wrapped up the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference portion of its fall schedule with a 6-1 win over Concordia Chicago on Wednesday at Hart Park. The victory assures the Warriors of their seventh straight appearance in the NACC Tournament, which commences in the spring.
WLC (6-5, 5-4 NACC) earned an opening point in doubles competition by taking all three matches from the Cougars (3-9, 3-5 NACC). Junior
Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) and sophomore
Maddy Olson (Onalaska, Wis.) defeated Tatiana Overton and Jessica Parker 6-4 at No. 1. Freshmen
Joelle Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Amelia Kelley (Appleton, Wis.) partnered at No. 2 for a 6-3 victory over Kamila Giza and Amirah Shakir for their team-leading eighth win of the season. Junior Desirae Push (Ixonia, Wis.) and freshman
Tai Mitchell (Elm Grove, Wis.) were 6-3 winners at No. 3 over Mary Curtis and Evian Dubon.
Wisconsin Lutheran won five of six singles matches in straight sets, as Schmidt edged Overton 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, Olson ousted Giza 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, and Smith secured a 6-2, 6-1 win over Shakir at No. 3 for her team-leading eighth triumph of the year. Freshman
Tai Mitchell (Elm Grove, Wis.) fashioned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Dubon at No. 5, and Pugh picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Curtis at No. 6.
The Warriors will resume competition in the spring, including the NACC Tournament which begins at the end of the April.
