Turnovers Haunt Football In Home Loss To SNC

Green Knights force six Warriors turnovers

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College was handed its second Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a 55-7 decision to St. Norbert at Raabe Stadium.

The Warriors (5-3, 4-2 NACC) found themselves trailing 27-0 at halftime to the Green Knights, who scored on five of their seven first-half possessions, including 10 points off three forced turnovers. WLC was held to just 21 yards of offense through its six first-half possessions.

SNC scored a pair of touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarter, culminating with a defensive score late in the fourth quarter. Wisconsin Lutheran broke through for its first score of the game with 3:53 left on a 56-yard touchdown pass from junior Nate Griffeth (Brighton, Colo.) to sophomore Emmitt Hawkins (Cudahy, Wis.).

The Warriors, who suffered their worst home defeat since April 3, 2020, totaled 203 yards of offense. Griffeth threw for 83 yards on 3-for-6 passing. Freshman Liam Heiges (Appleton, Wis.) rushed four times for 61 yards, and Hawkins had three catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. Senior Savon Goodwin (New Orleans, La.) led all players with 10 tackles, including a blocked field goal. Juniors Layson Handwork (Merritt Island, Fla.) and Nathan Nevad (Merritt Island, Fla.) added nine stops apiece.

For St. Norbert (5-3, 5-1 NACC), which finished with 468 yards of total offense, Peyton Lyon threw for 258 yards and four touchdowns and Patrick Oden rushed for 124 yards and a score. Marc Thomas had two of the team's four interceptions.

WLC travels to Rockford (4-4, 2-4 NACC) next Saturday for its final NACC road game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Sam Greeley Field. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
