ROCKFORD, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College collected its seventh sweep of the season on Saturday, defeating Rockford 3-0 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Seaver Center.
The Warriors (9-15, 4-8 NACC), who won for the 10th consecutive time against the Regents in the series, secured the sweep by scores of 25-20, 25-12, 25-13. WLC recorded its third-highest hitting percentage (.305) and tied for the third-most service aces (16) in a match this season.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran pulled away late from a back-and-forth opening set that featured 13 ties and six lead changes. Trailing 20-19, the Warriors rallied for six straight points on five kills and a service ace to take the opening set 25-20. WLC, which never trailed in sets two and three, jumped out to a 12-4 third-set lead. Wisconsin Lutheran netted the final four points of the set to lead by its largest margin at the close of the set, 25-12. The Warriors once again sprinted out to a commanding 15-5 advantage in the third set, as RU came no closer than eight points the rest of the way, en route to a 25-13 victory.
Junior
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) led WLC with a match-high 11 kills, while fellow juniors
Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.) and
Lily Schuetz (Lake Mills, Wis.) finished with 10 kills apiece. Schuetz, who tallied a career-high four service aces, also notched her first double-double of the season with 12 digs. Senior
Karah Valerio (Pewaukee, Wis.) dished out a match-high 22 assists in addition to four service aces. Senior
Emma Incaprero (Mauston, Wis.) distributed 10 assists. Senior
Kylee Gnabasik (Jefferson, Wis.) paced all players with 15 digs.
Leila Cooks had 11 assists and seven digs for Rockford (10-13, 1-11 NACC).Â
