Blackburn Rallies Past Warriors In Weekend Finale

Shevey finishes with four hits and two RBI for WLC

PLEASANT PLAINS, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College battled back from a five-run deficit to take a two-run lead into the seventh inning, but Blackburn rallied for nine runs over the final two frames for a 16-9 win on Sunday at Pleasant Plains High School.

A pair of RBI singles gave the host Beavers (1-2) a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Warriors responded with a run of their own in the top of the second, thanks to a RBI from senior Nick Fryhover (Castle Rock, Colo.). A two-run homer from BC in the bottom of the second put them in front 4-1. WLC picked up another run in the top of third from a RBI single by junior Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis.), but a costly error allowed Blackburn to pick up two more runs and a RBI single made it 7-2 after three innings.

A two-run blast from junior Nolan Hodgins (Caledonia, Wis.) in the top of the fifth cut the deficit to two, and a big five-run frame in the top of the sixth gave Wisconsin Lutheran its first lead of the game. Sophomore Eli Michaelis (Wauwatosa, Wis.) got it started with a RBI single to left. Shevey picked up another RBI with a single to right. A bases loaded walk drove in the third run, and sac fly's from senior Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas) and Hodgins plated the final two runs. The Warriors were held scoreless over the final two innings and a three-spot in the seventh and a six-run eighth gave the Beavers the 16-9 win.

Shevey led WLC with four hits along with two RBI. Michaelis added two hits and two runs, while Hodgins drove in a trio of runs.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-3) travels to Rantoul, Illinois for a pair of games versus Lawrence (2-1) and Elmhurst (0-0) on March 2 at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
