FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College came up short in a competitive three-set match to Marian on Tuesday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Warriors (3-15, 0-6 NACC), who held a lead in every set, fell to the Sabres (13-4, 4-1 NACC) by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 25-17.
WLC held a 16-15 lead in the opening set, which featured 13 ties and five lead changes. MU pulled away from a 17-17 tie for a 24-19 lead before Wisconsin Lutheran rattled off five straight points to even the set for the final time. A kill and attack error went the way of Marian for a two-point first set victory.
A service ace from sophomore
Connor Haeuser (West Bend, Wis.) gave the Warriors a 7-3 lead in the second set. The Sabres used a 12-2 scoring run to jump ahead by six. WLC battled back from its six-point deficit to knot the set at 17-17 only to see MU net eight of the last 11 points of the set.
Wisconsin Lutheran had a slim 5-4 lead in the third set until MU used a 7-1 scoring run to take control. The Warriors couldn't get any closer than four points the rest of the way as Marian claimed the eight-point victory.
Freshman
Sean Kane (Tinley Park, Ill.) posted a team-high 11 kills along with two block assists for WLC, which hit .113 on 36 kills, 25 errors, and 97 attempts. Junior
James Biedenbender (La Crosse, Wis.) tallied his third double-double of the season with 19 assists and a team-high 10 digs. Junior
Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) added 11 assists.Â
Derek Wills recorded a match-high 13 kills for the Sabres, who hit .271 with 35 kills, 12 errors, and 85 attempts.
