CLERMONT, Fla. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College was held to just one run over two games of a split non-conference doubleheader against Susquehanna and Gettysburg on Tuesday at Legends Way Ballfields. The Warriors fell 5-1 to the River Hawks in game one before being shutout by the Bullets 5-0 in game two.
SU (2-4) cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning with a two-out single through the left side for a 1-0 lead. Susquehanna added another single tally in the fourth on a RBI groundout to short for a two-run advantage. WLC (1-7) cut its deficit in half in the fourth with an unearned run as senior
Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) crossed home plate.Â
The River Hawks capitalized on a throwing error to score a pair of two-out runs in the fifth inning for a 4-1 lead. Martin and senior
Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) led off the sixth inning with consecutive singles, but were left stranded in scoring position as the next three were retired in order. SU plated its final run in the top of the seventh on a one-out double for the final 5-1 score.
Martin and Corley collected two hits apiece to account for four of the team's six hits.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran put a runner on base in each of the first three innings of game two, but was unable to plate a run. Freshman pitcher
Zoe Precup (Oswego, Ill.) kept GC (6-2) off the board through three innings by stranding a total of five baserunners.Â
Gettysburg broke through with five runs on five hits in the fourth inning to take control of the contest. The Warriors tallied three hits over the final two frames but couldn't manage to cross a run home.
