KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College came up short in a pair of one-run games on Friday in its final day of The Spring Games at Fortune Road Athletic Complex. The Warriors fell 3-2 to Mount St. Joseph in eight innings before dropping a 2-1 contest to North Central (Ill.).
The Lions (7-7) broke a scoreless game in the top of the fourth inning of game one with a two-run single up the middle. WLC (3-9) knotted the score in the bottom of the inning after senior
Lexi Martin's (Westfield, Ind.) double to right center that scored senior
Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.). Martin scored during the next at-bat on a passed ball to tie the score after four complete.
Wisconsin Lutheran had two runners in scoring position with one out in the sixth, but couldn't bring in the go-ahead run. In the top of the eighth, MSJ used a one-out single to jump in front 3-2. The Warriors had the tying run on third with one out and two runners in scoring positions with two down in their last at-bat, but were unable to drive home any runs.
Corley went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Martin was 1-for-2 with a RBI, run, and two walks.Â
The Cardinals (12-2) scored a first-inning run via a two-out RBI single to right for the 1-0 game two lead. After stranding a pair of runners in scoring position in the second, WLC tied the game in the third on a sac fly from Martin that brought home freshman
Madison Heller (South Milwaukee, Wis.).
NCC went in front 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a one-out RBI single to center. Wisconsin Lutheran threatened in the seventh with two hits, but left both runners on base when the game ended.
Heller went 2-for-3 with a run scored and freshman
Alea Anhalt (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had the other hit for the Warriors.
